Team OTBR Fantasy Baseball Update: Week 17

August 3, 2015 by Mike Jacobs Leave a Comment

Don’t call it a comeback!  OK, we really need to call a spade a spade and address the amazing Sunday comeback for Team OTBR.

Looking at the score and remaining games left on Sunday morning, we would have thought we were cooked. We looked like we had close to no hope of winning Week 17, down by about 70 points and having one less pitcher than Team The New York Mets CBS sports Fantasy Baseball said we’d have going.

I’m sure you tell by the tone that we were holding onto a narrow lead with Yoenis Cespedes and Jordan Zimmerman still left to play. So long as Zimmerman had a quality start and Cespedes doesn’t strike out every at bat, we were likely to hold on and having the week won. And who doesn’t love the irony that Cespedes is on the Mets now! Wow. Just wow.

On top of that, Basher, who is in first place, is going to take a loss. We were tied with Murphy10 for second, and they were running behind before Sunday games, but he’s got Bryce Harper, while his opponent, Matrix, has Noah Syndergaard going Sunday night. And Mad Bumss is behind us in fourth and looking to take a loss this week.

Basically, so long as everything went right with the real life New York Mets / Washington Nationals game Sunday night and no surprises, Team OTBR had a good chance to win this week and every important team in our division will be taking a loss. Great week if you ask us!

And guess what happened?  Everything went right!  Team OTBR is now alone in second place, only one game behind Basher in our division!  If the playoffs started today, we would be in it, since top two teams from each division make the playoffs.

What to do for Week 18?  We have a pretty good pitching staff. Even the pitchers we have on our bench are solid. Justin Verlander was ridiculous and looked like the Verlander of 2014. John Lackey has been consistently good. None of our position players are hurt either.  So maybe just give us the best chances for pitchers like 2 starts this week.  Verlander and Lackey are our 2 start guys, but who to pull out to make room?  Maybe Gio Gonzalez and Hector Santiago?  Freddie Freeman and Dee Gordon are back from their injuries, but are they better than Kendrys Morales and DJ LeMahieu?  Good problem to have.

Be proud Team OTBR!
