Team OTBR Fantasy Baseball Update: Week 14

July 13, 2015 by Mike Jacobs Leave a Comment

We’re back!  Not only did we win this week, but we had the highest points total in the league – no bonus points for that, but it’s good to know we have a solid core.

All Star game this week, so rather than making sure we have 2 start pitchers going this week, we need to make sure that we have pitchers making just 1 start, since a lot of pitchers won’t have any starts due to the short week. Makes it a little interesting.
We moved Justin Verlander up because he has a start and Hector Santiago did not. We’re playing bronxbombers15 and they are 5/9/0 (last place in the West) while we’re tied for second at 8/6/0.
Our lineups and we’re pretty well matched. We have 4 pitchers with starts this week (none in reserve) and they have 3 pitchers this week with one more in reserve that have starts.
So here’s the rub – we have a great lineup, but we have a potential issue. Dee Gordon is listed as questionable for his next start on Wed. He injured his thumb and would be on the DL had it not been for the All Star Break.  FantasyPros says he’ll sit out 2 games, so that’s an easy one.
But we have another issue – we don’t have a 2B in reserves. It looks like we can pick up DJ LeMahieu (COL). He has some good FTPS (219.5) and his BA, OBP and SLG are all in the 300’s (311/356/397). The other is Logan Forsythe (TB). He has FPTS of 222.50, but his BA is lower (274 which isn’t aweful). His OBP is good at 357 and his SLG is really good at 419.
If we grab another 2B, then unfortunately we have to drop someone. Dee is WAY to valuable to drop and that leaves Freddie Freeman (ATL) who’s on the DL, Kyle Seager (SEA) who’s a badass but in a bit of a slump or Avisail Garcia (CHW).
NOTE: Once Dee comes back on, we MUST get him back in the lineup!
So we’ll drop Garcia and add LeMehieu.  But we also need to keep an eye on the pitching the next day or so.  A lot of times, teams will reorganize their rotation during the All Star Break so their best pitchers (like Santiago in Anaheim) might be moved up to pitch in the first few games after the break, but the managers haven’t formally announced it.  Sometimes they won’t announce their rotation plans to the press until just before the first game of the 2nd half.
